You Know the “What” to Teach:
Let’s Talk About the “How”
Instructional Practices for Students with
Disabilities in General Education Classrooms

Presented by: Deanna Parish, Susan Thomas, and
Jenny Saunders - Academic Alliance of South Carolina

Utilizing the science of reading and other reading research has informed educators of the “what” to teach to improve reading outcomes for all students. The research has supported several high-leverage evidence-based instructional practices to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. School teams should select and implement instructional practices that can guide teachers in the “how” to deliver instruction to maximize student engagement and learning of students with disabilities and other students who struggle to learn in general education classrooms. This presentation will focus on a few practices that all teachers can utilize with ease along with recommendations on how to incorporate these practices into the multiple tiers of Instruction/intervention component of the MTSS framework. The presenters will share electronic resources and future professional learning opportunities with participants.
